Over recent months, D’Hudson’s activity on the Losers In Krakow website has been dwindling. It’s not only a sign that this writer simply doesn’t have much time. It has been a decline in terms of inclination. This decline has now transformed into a solid desire: to stop being mean.
“What’s the point?” D’Hudson said. “These targets are too obvious, and the task has become rather repetitive. Add to that the fact I’m not paid, and what am I left with? The belief that what I’m writing is funny, or that someone else finds it funny. If I don’t have that, then I just feel like I’m being just another grumpy old bastard.”
A lack of humour and an inability to laugh at one’s self is of course a bad thing, but there’s a fine between intelligent humour and pure shit hanging for its own sake. D’Hudson feels that he’s been, on too many occasions, guilty of the latter thing.
This is why, upon much reflection, he has decided to go off into the world and try to be BETTER. It does not mean he will altogether refrain from being sarcastic in verbal communication, though this may also be scaled down.
D’Hudson wishes Losers in Krakow all the best in their future endeavours. Perhaps he may later write upbeat stories about things, or give updates on grappling with the positive life, but he is not sure. Anyway, maybe people wouldn’t want to read them as much as scathing diatribes.
He wishes to state that he did not publish this piece because he thinks a plane he has to catch tomorrow will crash. He also has no idea why he wrote about himself in the second person.
